“It’s clear from the first page that Davis is going to serve a more intimate, unpolished account than is typical of the average (often ghost-written) celebrity memoir; Finding Me reads like Davis is sitting you down for a one-on-one conversation about her life, warts and all.”—USA Today
“[A] fulfilling narrative of struggle and success….Her gorgeous storytelling will inspire anyone wishing to shed old labels.”—Los Angeles Times
You will meet a little girl named Viola in my novel. She fled from her history until she decided to change her life and stop running altogether.
From a dilapidated apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond, this is my narrative. This is how I found my voice and my purpose in a world that didn't always notice me.
My eyes were opened to the reality that our tales are frequently not given careful consideration while I wrote Finding Me. To survive in this crazy, cutthroat, critical environment, we have to reinvent them. I so wrote this for everyone desperate, unmoored, and struggling to find self-love by sifting through foggy memories. For everyone who needs to be reminded of extreme honesty and the guts to take off masks and be authentic, you are the only thing that can give birth to a life worth living.
Finding Me is a kind of love letter, commitment, and introspection. It is my wish that my tale would encourage you to use art to brighten your own life and uncover the person you were before the outside world assigned you a name.
